The retrospective opens with Ousmane Sembène's first film, which many see as a landmark of African cinema, La Noire de... [Black Girl]. In Dakar, Diouana works as a nanny for a white family. When her employers return to Antibes, she goes with them, full of illusions that will soon be shattered. A ferocious critique of the unashamed racism that prevails in our societies, this modest story, part of the grand saga of immigration, is still relevant today over forty years after it was first released.
