Boris Charmatz has created a “choreographic forest” whose trees are unique gestures. An exploration of the ephemeral nature of dance, shattering visual references to make way for the intoxicating, vibrant beauty of the pure movement.

A major figure in contemporary dance over the last two decades, the dancer and choreographer Boris Charmatz has made his Museum of Dance in Rennes into a place of living memory by working with artists and researchers who are in tune with the zeitgeist. He continues his work here with 24 dancers performing "10,000 gestures which will only be visible once, disappearing as soon as they are made, like an ode to the impermanence of the art of dance". By turns subjective, joyful, confusing, meditative, excessive, hypnotic, melancholic, this avalanche of single, fleeting movements celebrates the timelessness of the body and its most sensitive expressions, in the kind of "ordered chaos" that only Boris Charmatz knows how to orchestrate.
