Annie Hanauer, Cie L’Autre Maison

Annie Hanauer


Annie Hanauer is a dancer, choreographer and teacher. Born in the US, she is based in London. She is interested in the power, wisdom and creativity of people who are excluded because of their disabilities. Her work explores the interplay between movement and language.

From 2008 to 2014, Annie Hanauer danced with the Candoco Dance Company in repertory pieces of major choreographers such as Trisha Brown, Nigel Charnock, Emanuel Gat, Wendy Houstoun and Claire Cunningham. She took part in the handover ceremony at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Paralympics.


As well as her own choreographic work, she has created shows in collaboration with companies including Beweggrund (FOREST), Candoco Dance Company (Soft Shell), Ramped (Off Center), Theater Münster (Madrigale von Krieg und Liebe), Mobius Dance (Curious Playground), ZHdK Zurich University of the Arts (Paper Landscapes), and as guest performer Cowles 2020 at the University of Minnesota (IMPULSE). She is currently touring with her pieces UPDRAFT and A Space for All Our Tomorrows. Her choreographic work is supported internationally in Switzerland, the UK and France.


Annie Hanauer also works with Rachid Ouramdane, a choreographer and director of Théâtre National de la Danse Chaillot. She runs inclusive workshops, choreographic residencies and professional classes around the world.

Since then, he has been invited to work with artists (Vera Martynov, Virginie Combet, etc.) and festivals, such as the Manifesta 13 biennale where he presented Sublimé·e, and the Festival de Marseille, which produced and presented his first show, Parade, in June 2022. He directed Lines in Tunis for the DreamCity Festival and Ballrooms for La Geste in Ghent. He presented his new show O amor natura with La Geste at VierNulVier in January 2025.
