Marwan Hamed

2025

(subject to confirmation)

Fifty years after her death, Umm Kulthum remains a symbol of emancipation for women across the Arab world. Born in a small village in Egypt’s Nile Delta, the singer rose up against the constraints of a conservative society that sought to silence women. As a child, she sang disguised as a boy, facing the rejection of a talent that would go on to leave its mark for generations. After The Yacoubian Building, his first film adapted from the novel by Egyptian writer Alaa al-Aswany, Marwan Hamed explores the life of this icon, offering a new generation the reflection of a free, committed and unforgettable woman.

En coréalisation avec Les Écrans du Sud (festival Ciné Plein-Air Marseille) et le Mucem.
