Chapitre et verset  : le gospel de James Baldwin

Meshell Ndegeocello

New York

For this digital multimedia event, the African-American singer and musician Meshell Ndegeocello has taken inspiration from a fundamental and highly relevant text on justice in the USA, The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin, and from our perpetually changing world.

Alongside Meshell Ndegeocello, the artists who collaborated on the project shared music, thoughts and meditations, and videos, all of which were testimonies of resilience inspired by the work of James Baldwin. These artists included poet and activist Staceyann Chin, artists Suné Woods and Nicholas Galanin, and director Charlotte Brathwaite. A virtual multidisciplinary multimedia creation inviting us to commit ourselves to justice in the 21st century, with real calls to action, inspired by the writings of one of the greatest authors of the 20th century. These moments of sharing are extended online and during the Festival by a time of meetings and exchanges.

"No label, no slogan, no party, no skin colour, and no religion is more important than the human being. "
