A masterclass with Tamer El Said - On the Sound/Image Dialectic

public talks

In a live sound creation workshop with Youssra El Hawary, Tamer El Said works on the material of his recent film AS YOU LAY IN YOUR GRAVE*. He reconstructs the dialogue between sound and image, and explores the infinite possibilities of cinematic language.

Considered one of the most promising artists of independent Egyptian cinema, Tamer El Said spent a month and a half in residence in Marseille. He will present the fruits of this time at the Festival, and, to share his universe even more, will lead a master class on the role of image and sound. Tamer El Said will also present a film he selected with Aflam, Arab Cinemas, to represent the Cairo film scene, as well as his film, The Last Days of a City, a major work of Arab cinema of the last decade, which tells the story of the difficulty of being an artist in a country in suspense.

*As You Lay In Your Grave, 3 min, 2020. The film is part of Cinetracts’20 project, a collective film made by 20 filmmakers from around the world in response to the current sociopolitical zeitgeist.

With the support of the Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation Department of the Southern Region and with the support of the Goethe-Institut Marseille. Organised as part of the Africa2020 Season, with the support of the French Institute and the Africa2020 Season Patrons Committee.
