Each creation by this multidisciplinary artist extends beyond the conventional frame of performance, giving rise to ever-renewed forms shaped by a diversity of narratives and the strength of the collective. At the festival C’est pas du luxe !, the director of the ERd’O company previously presented Les Beautés with unaccompanied minors. Here, she brings together three professional performers and nine Marseille-based participants to share their experiences in a two-part fashion parade.
First, a “classic” runway show presents archetypal feminine outfits through walks, postures and the sculptural costumes of designer Colombe Lauriot Prévost; then the audience, invited backstage, meets the twelve young women stripped of all artifice. This reversal dismantles stereotypes, unravels expectations, and brings the human self beneath the costume into full view. While clothing still defines the boundaries of the feminine and the masculine, it allows Édith Amsellem to probe intimacy, question gender, and explore the staging of the self.
