Making visible those bodies usually rendered invisible, creating connections, and building shared narratives—such is the ambition behind all the projects led by Eric Minh Cuong Castaing and his company Shōnen. Together, they have been forging a unique path since 2007: from interactions between humans and humanoid robots (School of Moon), to musical and choreographic celebrations (Sous Influence) and participatory performances (Tarab, which premiered at the Festival de Marseille in 2025). __p/\rc_ holds a special place in this artistic trajectory.
First performed in 2022 at the Théâtre du Châtelet, the work is reinvented locally with different children—here, they come from the Institut d’éducation Motrice Saint-Thys in Marseille. From a distance, other performers with physical challenges join the stage by guiding remote robots. A delicate alchemy takes shape between the artists (using prosthetics, slides or living carousels), the robots, which push, pull and support bodies described as “impaired”, and the audience, fully engaged through their gaze and presence.
Through its “playful beauty”, through the creation of a shared space where listening is mutual, constant and attentive, and by inviting the audience to move freely, __p/\rc_ blurs the boundaries of the stage and weaves the delicate threads of a genuine encounter.
