Suash

Nasa4nasa

dance French Premiere

Cairo

Two dancers step beyond the limits of space to investigate the relationship between the dancer’s body and a squash court. The winner? Movement: ordinary, poetic, meaning nothing but itself.

Strategy, repetition, structure: using a squash court as a performance arena puts the dancers within the constraints of a limited space and allows them to play with them in their own special way. From their voluntary immersion in this sport, with its strict rules, arises a kind of visual cartography, a choreography that “satisfies” and glorifies the grid structure. Suash is a codified performance that uses movement and energy to move outside the imposed spatial frame, exhausting the possibilities of space and eventually destroying it. It is the first performance staged by these artists, who are actively participating in the development of the contemporary cultural scene in Egypt.
