Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues invokes spirits and wildlife in a magical and exhilarating ritual performance where all kinds of transformations are possible. She reveals a cosmopolitan world where movements are punctuated by incantatory music, freeing bodies hidden beneath a huge cloud of colourful fabrics. The powerful energy they share is deeply moving.

Lia Rodrigues enchants the stage with a flamboyant piece celebrating life, nature, and spirits. Camouflaged or disguised, nine brightly coloured bodies connect in sensual freedom, forming a baroque landscape from which a motley crowd emerges, first slowly, then with unbridled frenzy, embarking on a journey that constantly reveals what is hidden. Encantado was created in the Favela da Maré in Rio de Janeiro, where Rodrigues founded a school and art centre that welcomes and trains people in the area and from around the city. Beneath the shimmering fabrics – bought cheaply at local markets, like all the modest materials collected by the choreographer – faces are revealed, bodies are freed and stripped bare, breaking free from the constraints of appearance and giving birth to living tableaux. A state of grace and joy unites them, forming a community that spreads, drawing us into the world of the encantados, unknown forces that "move between heaven and earth, in the jungle, on stones, in fresh and salty waters, in dunes, on plants, turning them into sacred places." They are beings that transcend time and ask us: how can we, in turn, enchant the world?
