Taking as its starting point the experience of wearing prosthetic limbs, Starting with the Limbs takes four dancers into new choreographic variations. Each of them experiments with “wearable and portable sculptures” designed by Ghali Bensouda using high-tech processes and 3D printing. Acting as both costumes and sets, they open up the potential of bodies and anchor them in the landscape in an approach that is both organic and poetic. Based on her own experiences and those of the four disabled and non-disabled dancers, in particular the relationship to their limbs perceived as “non-standard”, Annie Hanauer creates unique choreographic portraits. Each dancer expresses his or her individuality while remaining sharply attentive to the others, giving rise to true living tableaux. These unique bodyscapes redraw the frontiers between the body and its environment, providing a new perception of movement and identity.
