with James Baldwin

"No label, no slogan, no party, no skin color, and indeed no religion is more important than the human being." James Baldwin

African-American singer and musician Meshell Ndegeocello drew inspiration from James Baldwin’s truth-telling treatise on justice in America, The Fire Next Time, and from our endlessly changing world. Her resulting work is co-produced and will be presented by the Festival in the fall of 2020. Chapter & Verse: The Gospel of James Baldwin is new take on this masterpiece, reinvented to fit a digital medium and address the emancipatory fights against racism. It is a 21st century ritual tool kit for justice. A call for revolution. A gift during turbulent times.

A project to see, listen to and read.
