Kat Válastur

Kat Válastur is a Greek choreographer, performer and vocalist who lives and works In Berlin and Athens. Poetic, seductive, tender, enchanting but also raw, her pieces convey a feeling of urgency aiming at physical and spiritual transformation that potentially leads to healing.

Kat Válastur studied dance in Athens and at Trisha Brown Studios in New York. She then obtained a Masters degree on the SODA programme at HZT Berlin. Since 2022, she has been a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts.


Kat Válastur was guest artist at the Institute for Space Experiences, a project initiated by Olafur Eliasson and the Berlin University of Arts. She was named as an emerging talent by the magazine Tanz (2016) and nominated for the George Tabori prize (2017). 


Her work, presented around the world, has been supported by Fondation Hermès, included in NEW SETTINGS (2019) and presented by Centrale Fies in Italy (also in 2019). In 2022, she co-founded the feminist dance and performance magazine Spread Magazine with the choreographers Ixchel Mendoza Hernández and Jasmin Ihraç.


In 2023 she was artist in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, where she carried out research for her project Moonjar. In her latest creations, work on sound plays a central role, with sounds becoming extensions of the dancers’ physicality. She has worked with well-known musicians including Valentina Magaletti (Strong-Born) and Aho Ssan (Dive into You), who created original music for her works integrating rhythmic scores generated by the performers.
